A vintage-inspired by-the-sea wedding in Swansea

A vintage-inspired by-the-sea wedding in Swansea

Written by Katie Byrne

Writers Tracy and Paul celebrated their love in a stunning beachside celebration, held in Swansea

Tracy Harris and Paul Jenkins held their wedding party at Oxwich Bay Hotel in Swansea, Wales.

We wanted a relaxed, creative wedding by the beach - we're both writers and love the sea!

Having a marquee by the beach meant we not only had stunning views but also a blank canvas to really put our own stamp on. We loved the little church in the woods where we had a blessing and the walk through the woodlands with all our family and friends was really special.

When it came to a theme, we opted for a vintage-beach feel: we went for sand/ sea inspiration with shades of beige, blue and green.

My Rembo Styling wedding dress was simple but elegant. I really liked the classic vintage lace, which contrasted perfectly with the flowing boho tulle.

For my bouquet, I wanted wild flowers. Eva from The Flower Hive was brilliant at matching the colours and choosing different flowers that really stood out.

Paul wore a suit from Harry Brown with a hat from Ted Baker. His button hole was made out of the same flowers as mine … but he forgot to wear it!

The bridesmaids all had multiway dresses by Lilly Rose in a lovely deep green teal colour. It worked well with the sand and sea and they all wore them in different styles, which made them look individual.

The reception was held at the Marquee in the Oxwich Bay, overlooking the sea. The room was decorated with vintage bunting and fairylights.

The decorational flowers were bought from various supermarkets, and we created the jar displays ourselves. We made the centerpieces out of old books and paired them with the jars of flowers, as well as vintage placemats I found on eBay.

Placenames were made from Scrabble letters, whilst the tables were named after playwrights, novelists and poets, and were displayed along with a quote from their work.

We had one 'main' chocolate wedding cake, as well as lots of fairy cakes for our guests to enjoy. One main chocolate cake, lots of fairy cakes for the guests to enjoy.

I loved that our friends and family all helped making the day extra special. Two of my friends made a pop-up homemade elderflower champagne tent, so our guests could each have a glass on the beach.

Another lovely surprise was when our best man's daughter, Martha, sang a song during the wedding ceremony, which was really special.

One of my favourite moments of the day was when Paul and I had a cup of tea together to reflect on the day before the evening celebrations started! It was really nice to just talk it through and share that quiet moment.
