This couple's IKEA-themed engagement photoshoot will make you very, very happy

This couple's IKEA-themed engagement photoshoot will make you very, very happy

Written by Katie Byrne

Although there's not a meatball in sight, unfortunately!

Typically speaking, engagement photoshoot locations tend to be on the picturesque side: we're talking fields of flowers, romantic woodlands, stretches of beach...

However, for their just-engaged photo-moment, real-life couple Antony and Liz decided to do something a little different, and head to their favourite shop.

IKEA, to be precise.

The soon-to-be-wed pair enlisted the help of photographer Nick Rutter to capture the series of creative images.

The couple took their inspiration for the shoot from the film 500 Days of Summer, a movie which 'echoed the motions' of their relationship when they initially began sieeing each other.

And from there came the IKEA idea: in the cult indie classic, Summer and Tom visit the store multiple times, giving Antony and Liz the location idea for their engagement shoot.

Speaking about the collaboration, photographer Nick commented: "I do engagement shoots because I love to spend time with my clients to develop rapport, as well as giving them something creative even before their wedding. It also gets them used to the way I shoot. I never shoot the same location twice for the engagement shoot so its unique to them and me and the sky’s the limit for creativity as we can literally go anywhere in the country or abroad for a unique experience.

"Liz worked in PR for a few of the local night clubs and even though she finished work at 3am some days Antony would still meet her after work for a drink, or more frequently, Antony would walk Liz home and Liz would fall asleep on his lap until the wee hours of the morning! The first morning Liz did her ‘falling asleep trick’ Antony walked home at 5am! However, he said that he felt like Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the film 500 Days of Summer, the scene where he is walking to work after spending his first night with Summer. A plethora of well-styled backdrops and room sets at IKEA Southampton allowed their relationship to come to life in the colourful imagery created."

Store manager Salma Azad said: "It’s never happened before, but we were delighted to welcome Anthony and Liz to the store for this unique occasion. At IKEA, our principles of democratic design are built on the idea that good design combines form, function, quality and sustainability much like the qualities of a good marriage! Nick was able to take this vision of IKEA and combine it with the colourful couple to create something very unique!"
