A stunning destination wedding in Mauritius

A stunning destination wedding in Mauritius

Pascale and Jean-Marc tied the knot by the ocean, with a stunning firework-filled finale

Pascale and Jean-Marc tied the knot in Mauritius on 10 August 2016, with a ceremony at Notre Dames des Anges Catholic Church and a reception at Sugar Beach Golf and Spa Resort.

A few years ago we were on holiday, staying at a beautiful resort in Mauritius. Sitting by the pool, Jean-Marc randomly said that this would be a gorgeous place to get married. Later, we went out for dinner and afterwards, he suggested we walk on the beach to get back to our room.

We got near the jetty and there were two musicians waiting for us, who started playing one of my favourite songs from The Turtles. Jean-Marc got down on one knee and asked if I would be willing to spend the rest of my life with him. I was surprised but delighted and of course, said yes!

We decided to get married the following year but had to postpone until 2016 as we welcomed our daughter 10 months later.

I wanted my wedding dress to be the most beautiful gown I'd ever wear. After several trips to bridal shops in Melbourne - and having had no luck in finding what I really wanted - I started looking online for a bridal gown designer to create a custom dress. I came across Leah Da Gloria’s designs and decided to book an appointment with her. A few weeks later I was flying to Sydney to meet Leah!

She showed me designs that she had made before, as well as all the delicate laces available. I remember leaving there and saying to myself: "She has to be the one who creates my wedding dress". Her designs were so modern and magical. From there, I took regular trips to Sydney for fittings and every single time I was left amazed at what she had done since our last meeting. She was so easy to work with.

I knew from the beginning that I wanted something very glamorous – a wedding filled with lace and peonies.

Unfortunately, peonies are not available in Mauritius, but thankfully, the beautiful Lexia who did our wedding cake and decorated the reception venue made sure we had them there on the day. She personally ordered them from Holland! We wanted the style to be very classy and with a colour palette of blush, ivory and gold.

Sadly, Jean-Marc’s dad passed away six weeks before the wedding, so we thought of cancelling the firework display we had initially planned. However, we decided to go on with it and it turned out to be the highlight of the party. Our guests were so surprised!

My favourite moment from the day would have to be our first dance: we both took dancing lessons for about three months and had someone choreograph it - it was the tango version of Sway, sung by Michael Buble.

I would change absolutely nothing about the day. We had a ball planning our dream celebration and on the day itself, everything was just how we wanted it to be. We can definitely look back and say it was the perfect day.

My advice for brides-to-be would be to remember it is your special day. Do the things that will make you happy and will give you beautiful memories to cherish!

Steal their style!
