Five common wedding gift list questions - answered!

Five common wedding gift list questions - answered!

Written by Katie Byrne - WEDDING PROMOTION

Ali Beaven, co-founder of wedding gift list service Prezola, answers the most common wedding present queries...

"I've always thought asking for money was tacky - until it came to planning my own wedding! I know some people have an issue with giving money - so what's the best way to ask our guests for cash donations rather than items?"

We totally get it. When it comes to wedding plans, it's hard to please everyone so we give you every possible option so there's no frowns. You can either ask for cash in a number of denominations to suit every budget or ask for cash contributions such as a new sofa, new car or even cocktails on the beach or activities as part of a honeymoon fund. Either way, you'll get 100% of the money straight into your bank account but guests will feel that they've contributed something special to your new married life together, rather than "cold, hard cash"!

"In your opinion, is it better to ask for too many things than too few? What happens if there's nothing left on the gift list for some of the guests to buy?!"

We recommend adding 1 gift per guest (not couple) so 100 guests means 100 gifts! Many people like to buy more than one thing as a present so it's always good to have more, though if you're running out of available gifts to buy, you can add more at any time. If there are any leftover presents after the wedding which haven't been bought, we offer 10% off for couples to buy items themselves, so there's no need for incomplete dinnerware sets!

wedding gift list questions

"We have absolutely no idea where to begin with picking products for our gift list. What would you recommend we do?"

It can be really daunting when you first start your gift list, and with over 30,000 items to choose from - we don't blame you! Everyone prefers a different method to creating their list - some like to go room by room, making sure nothing has been missed, others like to start off with brands they love such as Sonos, KitchenAid and The White Company, and then browse by other brands afterwards. Save our checklist so you can tick off each department as you go along and check out our blog and inspiration lists when you're feeling stuck - we're always showcasing the latest gifts that we know couples will love!

"We're recently-ish engaged and have set our wedding date for a year away. How soon do we need to set up our gift list?"

Sometimes with wedding planning, you feel like you need to wait until a certain point before getting bits sorted. With wedding gift lists, you can start as early as you like and keep it hidden until you're ready to share with everyone! If you're happy to wait, we recommend making sure your gift list is ready alongside your invitations so you can include details of how to access it with your guests on the invite. This is about four to six months before the big day.

wedding gift list queries

"I know Prezola has hundreds of brands on its website. If I find a product by one of those brands on a different website - that you DON'T stock - can I add it to my list?"

Of course! With our Premier Plus account, couples can add items from our brands that aren't on the website and we'll source them for you. If the gift is from a brand that isn't on Prezola, we can add it to your gift list too by creating a bespoke gift. We won't be able to deliver the product to you, but guests can pay for the item and we'll transfer the money to your account to purchase the product. Win-win!
