You've got to see Tygar and Luke's wedding cake!
Tygar Taylor, 27, a student support worker, and Luke DeVere, 26, a professional football player, were married at Sirromet Winery in Queensland, Australia.
Floral budget: £6,000-£7,000
Luke and I met in high school, starting out as friends and becoming more as we got older. We got engaged on holiday in Fiji; Luke proposed on a secluded part of the beach after a relaxing day around the pool drinking cocktails.
The theme for our day was rustic winery – our venue had wine barrels everywhere, exposed brick and was surrounded by a lot of natural greenery.
The reception room was the perfect size for our 85 guests and had substantial space for dancing (you can’t forget about the dancing!)
Our venue was very romantic and elegant, but still had a relaxed feeling to it. We were surrounded by the beautiful Australian landscape which really added to the atmosphere.
The flowers were really important to me as they tied everything in our reception room together, and the ceremony blooms and vines gave a large space a real sense of boundary. I know that flowers can be a huge cost to a wedding, but they really do make such a massive impact and will take your theme to the next level.
We went for white roses and a lot of greenery which included native Australian leaves (eucalyptus varieties) and vines.
The bridesmaids wore jasmine vines in their hair which were just gorgeous!
Our florist Julie did a great job of creating garlands at the ceremony and reception that were more of a greeny/grey tone, rather than a strong green that could appear overwhelming on such a large scale.
Our cake was a five tier monster! My mother made it based on a photo we provided. She is a traditionalist when it comes to baking, so making a rustic-style cake was out of her comfort zone. She did a great job and made three different flavours including red velvet, lemon and vanilla.
My favourite part of the day was having my photo taken with my sisters, who were all my bridesmaids, and the rest of the bridal party. It was a great time to relax and to just have a bit of fun.
My tip for brides-to-be: Be true to your style and your tastes. Feel confident in your theme as well. I had a lot of people suggesting I needed additional flowers, additional jewellery, more alcohol... the list was endless! It stressed me out initially, but then I stopped worrying about everyone else and really thought about how Luke and I wanted our day to go. It all worked out in the end!
