This wedding party held something utterly adorable in place of flowers

This wedding party held something utterly adorable in place of flowers

Spoiler alert: there were some wet noses involved...

Traditionally, the bride holds a bouquet of flowers on her wedding day - but Sarah Mallouk decided on something a little different when she tied the knot with Matt Crain earlier this month.

The Pennsylvanian couple decided to make a charitable stand in their wedding photos - opting to hold, along with their bridesmaids and ushers, half-a-dozen gorgeous rescue puppies.

Be still our beaing hearts...

The dog-loving couple and their bridal party held a selection of six adorable pups in a bid to raise awareness to homeless dogs. The pups - all pit bulls - were being cared for by Pitties.Love.Peace, a non-profit animal awareness organisation that the bride works for.

Speaking to News10, Sarah commented: "There are so many that need homes like just little Martha [the puppy Sarah held] here".

The couple didn't leave the canine theme there: they also had dog-inspired invitations, a dog cake-topper and dog place cards. Paw-some, no?

The photos from the celebration went viral after Sarah and Matt's photographer, Caroline Logan, shared photos from the wedding on her Facebook page. The gorgeous pics have since been shared hundreds of times - see the post here.

Speaking about the response, the bride commented: "It's shocking. I don't think I ever expected the phone call from Caroline, our photographer, that it had gone viral. Within minutes, it was just blowing up".

She added: "I never thought that the photos would spread how far they have, so I'm so happy that not just pit bulls but rescue dogs in general are getting the exposure they deserve. I had told both the bridesmaids and the groomsmen just to interact with them and not worry about getting their puppy smiling at the camera because that's just unrealistic".

Sarah concluded: "To have these photos that we can show our kids and our grandkids and the story that's behind it will be something that I never forget".
