A boho-inspired wedding at Eynsham Hall in Oxfordshire

A boho-inspired wedding at Eynsham Hall in Oxfordshire

Written by Katie Byrne

Jessica and David filled their glamorous celebration with plush florals, home-spun details and a truly show-stopping cake...

We wanted a relaxed country wedding in a spectacular setting. I chose ‘boho glamour’ as I wanted a romantic, whimsical style but with a glamorous edge.

I love the breathtaking view of Eynsham Hall as you drive in. Dave and I went there for our first getaway around four years ago and as we drove in I was dumbfounded at the truly magnificent sight before me. The thing I love about Eynsham Hall is it is elegant yet quirky and formal yet relaxed. It has a real English country charm that I knew our American guests would love.

I knew I wanted my wedding to have a vintage feel however I don’t like the bunting, naked cake and fete look as it is a bit overdone. I describe my theme as ‘boho glamour’. I do not like things to be matchy-matchy and just chose things that I really liked rather than having a concrete theme.

I think the venue and my décor echoed a real whimsy, romantic and glamourous impression all at the same time. We also had a subtle ‘cat’ theme running with the table names, cat tags at people’s place settings and photo of our 2 pet cats acting as a sign.

It took me a long time to find my dress. I was open to different styles and wanted to try as many as possible before deciding on the one. I am a very indecisive person by nature and knew this would be a tricky task. I travelled the country far and wide to find a dress that had the ‘wow’ factor and was really me. One thing I was sure of was that I wanted a floral crown and vintage quality to the dress.

I started doing a lot of research online. I focused on Claire Pettibone dresses to start with as they have a whimsical feel that I was after. I purchased my ‘Azalea’ dress by Jenny Packham at Ellie Sanderson in Oxford at a Designer day. Once I tried it I knew that was my dress as it had all the elements I was after: vintage, whimsical and romantic.

The bridesmaids wore sky blue dresses from David’s Bridal; I chose the colour and asked the girls to choose whichever style they preferred.

I knew I wanted pink and cream flowers and I had a selection of roses and anemones. Fabulous flowers are responsible for the floral arrangements. I absolutely loved my floral crown and felt it made a real statement. My bouquet was truly beautiful; I opted for a cascading bouquet as this has more of a vintage look and again had the wow factor. I took a photo of Princess Diana’s bouquet and asked them to make something similar.

My table arrangements were a mixture of tall and low that had a wild and romantic sense. From the start I knew that I wanted pink flowers and I feel they gave the room a real romantic mood. My gold sparkly table cloths were very unique and added to the glamour of the room.

I bought a frame and hung childhood photos of Dave and me on this and displayed it on the guestbook table. I loved the large light up letters from Vowed and Amazed; they were minimal but again added personalised glamour.

We had a cake table rather than just one cake, The cake table was truly amazing, Colours used were pink and gold. We had a three tier cake plus, cup cakes, cake pops and pink lemonade. Flavours included chocolate, fruit, lemon and lime and coconut. The cake was beautiful - almost too good to eat!

Dave is from America so our favours were ‘peanut butter and jelly’. We provided Reece’s peanut buttercups in stripy blue and white paper sweet bags.

My favourite memory of the day is walking back out down the aisle knowing that we were now husband and wife and all our friends and family were there cheering us on,. The ceremony was truly special as it captured both out religious backgrounds which very important to us.

Steal their style!
