A wedding at Phyllis Court, with an Augusta Jones bride and adorable candle favours

A wedding at Phyllis Court, with an Augusta Jones bride and adorable candle favours

Written by Katie Byrne

Emma and Jon tied the knot in a romantic riverside celebration, complete with pretty pops of pink

Emma Wells, a hair and make-up artist, and Jon Meeks, a senior sub-contract buyer, both 28, married at All Saints Church in Marlow, followed by a reception
at Phyllis Court in Henley-on-Thames.

Budget: £20,000-£25,000

Our engagement was very understated and took place in our first home together. We wanted our wedding to be a reflection of us and our tastes, and so we opted for a beautiful, natural setting by the river, and incorporated pretty floral touches to enhance the overall look. We fell in love with our venue straightaway. It was down-to-earth and just so picturesque.

For my dress, I chose an Augusta Jones number – I loved the strong lines and soft layered fabrics.

Being an outdoor celebration, we wanted a warm summer feel to our day. So we chose a palette in soft pastel pinks and creams with complementary flowers, opting for blowsier blooms like garden roses to enhance the romantic summery vibe we wanted to create.

For our drinks reception, guests were served prosecco and Bellinis, with canapés of mini sausages in dijon mustard, caviar parcels and mediterranean tartlets – these complemented the outdoor setting nicely.

Meanwhile, we had a beautiful pianist, resident at The Dorchester in London, to entertain our guests throughout the drinks reception. We later had a band called The In- Laws, who were so vibrant and fitting to our taste in music.

For our sit-down meal, we opted for something light and traditional: we had roast chicken with seasonal vegetables, followed by a yummy Eton Mess for dessert!

As we own a candle company – Humeur Legere – we decided to make little votive candles for favours with ‘Just married’ ribbon tied around them – they were so personal. Our day was amazing, but being out on the lawn in the sunshine surrounded by all of our family and friends really did feel euphoric.

My tip for brides-to-be: Enjoy the engagement period – it’s so special and just remember that all will be all right on the day if you let it!
