Deborah and Ollie threw a stunning flower-filled celebration, complete with pretty pops of orange

Deborah McBrien, 32, an NHS quality improvement project leader, and Ollie Lane, 35, a head of IT infrastructure at a ministerial department, tied the knot at Mount Ephraim Gardens in Faversham, Kent.

Budget: £20,000-£25,000

Ollie and I were on a weekend trip to Bruges when he surprised me on the last evening by popping the question on St. Bonifacius Bridge. I wasn’t expecting it at all and naturally burst into tears! We fell in love with our venue, Mount Ephraim Gardens in Kent, straight away.

The combination of the house and the gardens offered a plethora of outstanding photo opportunities. We opted for a BBQ at our evening reception to make the most of the gardens and to recreate the summer family BBQs we fondly remembered from our childhood. The younger guests were able to play on the grass and everyone enjoyed the great food, company and a drink or two.

We knew that flowers were going to be a major focal point of our day. We opted for the wild flower look and placed the blooms in jars collected by our family and friends. Ollie wanted a blue suit so we knew this colour would feature heavily in the wedding.

With this in mind, we decided that blue delphiniums would be included in all of our floral arrangements. We loved their height and shape. Orange was the perfect bright colour to complement the blue so we opted for orange dahlias in the bridal bouquet, bridesmaids posies and buttonholes.

For evening entertainment we decided to have a band. This was important to us as we both love music. The band ended up playing a very important role in our day as they performed an acoustic version of the John Legend track All of Me for our first dance.

Shuffling around the dance floor for our first dance was not what we wanted, so we had a couple of dance lessons in the week building up to the wedding day. We put together a simple Waltz routine and even though there were a few stumbles, it was still magical.

Tip for brides-to-be: Don’t panic about the little things; the guests will be so focused on the bride and groom that they won’t notice if a small detail is forgotten or if something didn’t quite work out.

Steal their style!
