A colourful wedding at The Larmer Tree Gardens in Wiltshire

A colourful wedding at The Larmer Tree Gardens in Wiltshire

Hayley and Paul filled their relaxed celebration with endless personal touches and rustic inspired details

Hayley Potter, 30, an illustrator, and Paul Currah, 31, a graphic designer, got married in a humanist ceremony at The Larmer Tree Gardens in Salisbury, Wiltshire, where they also held the reception.

Budget: £15,000-£20,000

We had a humanist ceremony with lots of personal touches, such as a ring bearing nest made by Paul’s mum and niece Rose, and readings from The Velveteen Rabbit and The Princess Bride.

Nature, imagination, stories and travel were always going to be natural starting points for us, and our venue was a wonderful and magical place with eclectic architecture.

The ceremony was followed by afternoon tea on the lawn with music, deck chairs and flowing peach bellinis, lemonade, Pimms and beers. We also served tiny Cornish pasties and sandwiches.

Paul’s speech made me cry as he had secretly asked some of my friends and family to say what they loved about me, which he quoted. I was very grateful for the waterproof mascara at that moment!

Our evening party was held outside around fire pits and under fairy lights, and inside a Victorian building in the garden. The DJ filled the room the magical blue lighting, and with the help of Groove Is In The Heart by Dee Lite (which was actually our first ever dance together) the guests flooded the dance floor.

My top tip for brides-to-be: Don’t be afraid to be true to yourselves – organise a wedding that really reflects you and what you believe in.

Steal their style!
