The man's guide to wedding day grooming

The man's guide to wedding day grooming

Written by Katie Byrne

Bridget-Clare O’Keeffe – founder of bespoke bridal beauty concierge Sapphire Pink – shares her expert tips for ensuring a well-groomed look ahead of your big day

In the run-up to the big day...

Try a facial

Regular facials are a relaxing pampering treatment that will not only leave you with a healthy glow but also offers some relaxation away from the stresses of wedding planning - and everyday life! Facials are especially suited for those who suffer from shaving problems such as ingrown hairs.

For an at-home facial, try steaming your face regularly; this will help with shaving rash as well as unblocking any toxins clogging up the nose area. You can do this by putting a fresh, clean towel soaked in hot water and wrung out over your face four or fives times. Make sure you dry your face off well with a fluffy towel too which will help with reviving a dull complexion.

Look at your diet

For many grooms the desire to loose weight and look trim is top of the wedding to-do list. However, it’s important to ensure that this is achieved through a combination of eating healthily and regular exercise as opposed to crash dieting. Not only will regular exercise get you 'honeymoon fit' but the endorphins released will help with stress levels and ensure you can tackle your wedmin with extra vigour.

Alongside regular exercise make sure you are drinking at least two litres of water a day. Keeping your body hydrated with fresh water not only takes years off your appearance but will also make you feel better. Kick-start your day by downing a glass before you even get out of bed.

Invest in yourself!

There is no better time to treat yourself to quality skincare products than in the run-up to your wedding. Top investment items include a good exfoliator, a nourishing moisturiser and for those looking to reduce the appearance of fine lines, an eye cream to banish dark circles is essential.

On your wedding day...

Mr Smooth

For a clean-cut look, opt for a hot towel shave on the morning of the wedding. Not only will you get the closest shave of your life but it’s a thoroughly enjoyable experience for the men.

BB cream = every groom's secret weapon

Wearing BB cream isn't the same as wearing make-up - don't worry! - but it does give the benefit of it. A good quality BB cream will even out your skin tone and disguise blemishes - opt for one with added Witch Hazel to tighten your pores. For those blighted by oily to combination skin, a guaranteed way to avoid a shiny forehead in wedding photographs is to use a mattifying cream on the morning of the
big day.

Top of the locks

It’s important to not neglect your locks. Pop a drop of hair serum into the palms of your hands and run it through your hair before styling. This will help with shine and achieves an overall polished look in photographs, however this is best avoided if your hair gets greasy easily.

And the #1 golden rule of looking fantastic on your wedding day...

Lastly don’t forget to enjoy the moment and smile – quite simply our easiest tip to ensuring you look great on your day!
